ADULT: Wingspan up to 28mm. A buff-coloured grass moth best recognised by the creamy  yellow median streak that narrows at about a third from the wing base and has four terminal 'fingers' and a trace of a subterminal line. The forewing has a somewhat rough texture. When the moth is examined closely a facial cone is present.  LARVA: The larva feed on grass stems, particularly at the base of the plant. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and easily disturbed by day. HABITAT: Dry, rough grassland. FLIGHT PERIOD: June to September. STATUS: Considered a common grassland species throughout the UK.
